Acorn Woodpecker w/repost

I had the pleasure of spending the 2nd day of the new year, adding a new bird to my collection. Thanks Wade Pettitt for disclosing to NPN members the location of large acorn woodpecker gathering near Portland OR.

Great bird and you have captured a lot of detail there. I see what I think is some cloning artifact above his head and something with the perch to the left of the bird is going on-since it is not sharp like the perch under the bird. It's worth a second go.

Congratulations on adding this bird to your files. A very nice image it is as well! I see what Angela is referring to as well. Did you perhaps apply some noise reduction that is affecting the perch? Lovely colors although it would have been nice to get a bit more detail in the white on the wing.

Craig,

i love teh angle of the bird which makes it seem like he is sleeping on the branch with his eyes open. The green moss on the bark adds interest to the comp. Great shot!

My favorite of the current crop of acorn woodpecker images. The repost is great. I love the perch and the pose. Makes me laugh and that works because these guys have always seemed like clowns to me.
