A Beautiful Day

The sky didn't cooperate yesterday morning at sunrise on the coast as there wasn't a cloud to be found, so I tried to find a more intimate composition. Found this tier of rocks that had some nice water motion and reflection. Canon 5D II, Nikon 14-24 with adapter, f/20 (ish), .4 seconds, ISO 50. Appreciate the feedback as always.

The variety of colors and patterns in the water is mesmerizing to study.

Chris,

The large version is a real joy to explore. Guy is right on about the variety of colors. In addition, all the splashes are catching that sunset light and are among the little details that I think make this so wonderful.

The crop (or capture) up top is exact and purposeful. You mentioned the sky wasn't all that exciting and you wanted a more intimate composition... but I'm curious about the exact crop. For me, the wave line is important to the composition and I'm guessing the horizon is just above that. So that leaves just a few small rays of the sun without actually showing the sun or horizon. I think the effect is excellent and you did well to capture and craft this as you have done.

Beautiful, intimate seascape.

You were highly successful in your quest. I think I might even like this better than the standard sunrise picture.

I love how the light appears to be dancing on the water. I've got mixed feelings about the comp though. The wave line at top seems to break-up the light as it fades to the horizon. :toast:

You have captured some great light on the water splashes.I also could see cropping out the incoming wave too. Nice picture Chris with lots to look at. How do you like the Nikon lens with the adapter? Is it worth it?Cheers

Wonderful splash of colors Chris, love the exposure! I'd be interested in a higher crop, or a lower crop, the wave seems a bit cramped.

Thanks for the comments. I did go back and forth with the crop several times. I initially chose to crop just above the three rocks but that looked a little tight. The horizon is just above this crop, and the sky was really bright and blown so I excluded it. Raymond, I do like the Nikon very much. The adapter took a little getting used to, and I'm still a little off with not being able to use filters with it, as I do use polarizer and ND fairly regularly. But overall the sharpness blows the 16-35mm out of the water, IMO, which was my previous 'always on' landscape lens.

The graphical elements of this composition alone are awesome. Then, when you take in the light and the color it turns into something really special. I love it.
