Wow, this is beautiful Michael. I like your low point of view with his neck against the cerulean sky and faint clouds. The texture of the foreground grasses is excellent. Wonderful detail on the Bittern, love the raised food pose. Congratulations capturing this bird in such a nice setting.

Great image. Can't believe how out in the open he is. Extended neck and lifted foot are very appealing here. Excellent detail-well done.

Sweet, one of my favorite birds and this is a great look. Foot up, nice habitat, and good detail. Well done.

I just read ("Bird Coloration", G.E. Hill, p.144) that when a bittern feels threatened and wants to hide it will point its bill skyward to blend it with the reeds. It will even sway to match the motion of the reeds. (This is all new to me....maybe common knowledge to you and everyone else!). Anyway, it's really interesting to see this image demonstrating the position, Mike. Very fine detail, color and comp. I like the raised foot too.

Sweet, Michael. It's interesting that it struck that "I'm just a clump of reeds" pose even though from your angle he stuck out like a sore thumb. I like the lifted foot and the detail is superb.

Michael,
Great timing as the neck appears to be almost elongated. This is a very interesting species that you have captured beautifully.
