WC464 Sun Halo w/repost

I was driving up to work in the mountains and as I was approaching Loveland Pass saw a sun arc so I pulled over and slowly the small arc (one of the highlights on the right side) grew into a full halo, eventually parts of a second halo appeared as well. It was amazing how large it appeared, this is a full frame shot at 24mm and the second halo is not even in the frame

Great shot. This is a cold weather shot. We lived in North Dakota for a while and I saw a full circle a couple of times, but never got a shot of it. Great capture.

Very nearly 360°! Quite a sight and a very good capture of it, Scott!

Nice catch, Scott! Any idea what the long concave arc is from left to right through the sun? Natural or lens caused?

Very good capture of a Gloriole. We see sundogs, the lobes in this photo, here in Interior Alaska, but only rarely the full halo.

Stan, the concave arc is definitely natural, it goes through the side arcs and then on to the second halo. I took 16 other images at many different angles and lens elevations and the long concave arc goes through all of them at the same points as you see on the original post. Here is another image that shows a portion of both halos with that arc going through both.

Edit: I looked through the sequence and at first only the sun dog (side arc on the right) was visible, but as the clouds moved through, the sun appeared and that concave arc appeared even before the halo began to grow to a complete circle. They are also visible on the photos in the link that Jim has in his comment above.

Scott,

I have never seen a sun halo. This is a great picture.
