Columbine

Gallery: Macro & Close-upPosted January 8, 2011113 views10 comments
This is a columbine from my back yard. The dark background is largely due to the shade below a deck in the background. The conditions were perfect. No wind, nice light and the flower was looking it's best.

Nikon D700, 70-200 mm, Cannon 50 D Close Up lens, f18, 1/13 sec.

Minimal processing in Photoshop, levels, sharpening.

Thanks for any and all comments.

You have me guessing on how you used two cameras for this? Other than that, very delicate and pretty.

The Cannon 50D is a closeup lens attachment. It fits on a 77mm thread and works great with the Nikon 70-200. Nikon discontinued their closeup attachment. The only thing I have learned about this set-up is that the depth of field is very shallow.

Hank:
Nicely done. The black bg really makes the flower pop. I used the 500D a lot before I bought a macro lens and really like the bokeh.

The colors and texture really stand out with the black background.

So fragile and subtle looking - black BG really sets it off.

Pretty nice columbine capture . . . these are such beautiful subjects. If it were mine I would clone out that small area of green along the left side of the frame so that the background is relatively uniform. That's quite minor though and does not detract from the image. Just throwing it out there for consideration.

Tom: One of my favorite flowers superbly captured. My only tiny <1¢ nit is the stem coming out of the corner. Nicely done.>=))>

Thanks for all of the feedback everyone. A couple of things, the close-up lens is the Cannon 500D, not the 50D as I mentioned earlier. Also, good catch on the small bit of green foliage on the edge. My monitor has gotten so dark I really cannot see it. But I did on another computer. Thanks again everyone and keep clicking.
