Revisiting some autumn images again, I came across this and reprocessed it using Elements and some of the things you folks have taught me. D60, ISO-100, 5 seconds, f-36, 55mm with CPL. Larger posted, commments certainly welcomed!

Bill, wonderful light and POV. With the larger version I can almost hear the noise of the waterfalls.

Pretty nice redux on the processing, Bill! There are a lot of nice nuances in the water and cascades. I like the comp, mostly, but there are a few minor nits. A friend of mine gave me some good advice about the edges of the frame once. He said, if you're going to include something, make obvious that it was your intension to do so. If things like the little green branch coming in from the upper right can't be eliminated from the comp, then include enough of them to make them part of it. it's hard to say what limitations you had to move, or widen your view, so you may have taken this into consideration already. I'm just seeing that I want slightly more of the waterfall up top, and maybe more of what's to the right.

this works pretty well, Bill, though the nice light in the ulc and top draws the eye away from the flowing water in most of the frame. It would help to brighten the whitewater in the bottom 80% of the image.

I like the different levels and your shutter speed was great in smoothing the water flow. I think Doug's idea of lightening the bottom would make this even better in terms of offsetting the bightness of the ulc. Interesting image throughout.

Interestingly, I recognizes this as yours from the water, Bill. I just has your look to it.

Thanks all, yes I like the idea of lightening the bottom a bit myself, great advice. And Chris, yes there were limitations and I did think about the branch on the RHS in particular. But I left it, for whatever reason!

Nice image Bill. I like the water flow, but I wish there was more romm at the top. F/36?? - why did you choose such a small aperture, or is that a typo?

Hey Bill, thank you again for your comment. First, there is more room at the top, a lot more, I wanted this to be in ESS, so I cropped out and concentrated on this area. For a more full view, here is where my M&N post is (sorry, not sure how to link it directly--any help in that regard is welcomed).

http://www.naturephotographers.net/imagecritique/ic.cgi?a=ep1&pr=164035&CGISESSID=3c186c4cb9d2cb0d954b07fda3fa29fe&u=10432

Second, according to my EFIX info, f-36 is correct it appears, though I didn't even realize the D60 would go that high. When I shoot water, I usually shoot using Shutter priority. The aperture is automatically adjusted according to the shutter speed I select. In this case, with the long exposure and polarizer as well, it went to f-36!! It's just the way I feel most comfortable shooting water right now, rather than in manual. But hopefully I'll get there.

OK slight correction on this image--I mistakenly used the EFIX info from the M&N post--same principle in Shutter mode, but this image was 4 seconds at f-25.0. Sorry!!!

I really like this Bill.
I have questions,
How did you set your equipment to get a 5 sec. exposure. I see some bright light on the left. Did you use ND filters ?? please help. f/36, really?

Hi Rohn, thank you for the questions and comment! If you look at the post just above yours, I explained that I confused the data for this photo with an image I posted in M&N--however, both were made the same way. This one is 4.0 seconds and f-25. The image in M&N is 5.0 seconds, f-36.

To get the exposure length, in shutter mode I simply dialed up (or down) the speed to 4 seconds in this instance. The aperture on the D60 automatically adjusts given the amount of light, and length of exposure chosen. In this case, I simply used a circle polarizer. That's all.

I don't usually shoot in maual in cases like this, but instead have found using shutter mode a great way to shoot water--is this out of the ordinary?? :toast:

I really like the water flow appearance here. To me it feels heavy on the left, with all the rocks and trees there. Would a crop of 15% off the left side work? I guess what I really look at here is the water on the right and middle, and not so much at the rocks on the left. Frankly, I think the upper right quarter of this is a fabulous image by itself!
