Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)

Place: Gilbert Water Ranch, AZ, USA
Date: December 12, 2010
Equipment: Nikon D200, Nikkor AF-S 300/2.8 & TC14E (1.4x), G1325, RRS BH-55, Sidekick
Exposure: Aperture priority matrix metered, ISO 400, 1/800th @ f/9
Raw, PS CS3 on Mac G4, 61% of full frame

I'm way behind in editing and processing, so here's one from last month. I don't get much chance for flight shots and am not very good at it, so I'm happy when I get any airborne bird (even a big slow goose) properly exposed and in focus.

Honest critiques requested; all comments appreciated.

Excellent. Same great IQ I see in your non-BIF shots. You should do this more often Rich.

Awesome light on the underrside of the wing, and a great BIF - you got the exposure spot on.

He is not only properly exposed and in focus - I think he/she is eyeing you! Good work - I like those slow geese too.

Excelent techs for someone "not very good at BIF shots"...not sure where you got that idea Rich, this one looks terrific.

Very nice Richard - this shot begs to be seen in the large version as it clearly shows the wonderful catch light in the eye and the detail in the shadowed portion of the upper wing. Great exposure with detail in both blacks and whites - well done.

Well, for a guy who claims not to be good at flight shots, this is very good. Perfectly exposed, a great angle and nicely timed.

Beautiful composition. The detail in the plumage is great in the larger version, and the lighting is very nice as well.

I wish I was this bad at flight shots. This looks excellent, I like the blue sky and the goose looks great, tack sharp! :toast:

This is a very fine BIF shot, Richard. I'm still struggling with such shots. In this one, this large bird is all sharp, complete with catchlight, a fine pose and beautiful exposure. :toast: :toast:

Great light across the bird, I like the POV and flight pose.
Very good details revealed in that LP Richard, the blue looks just right.
Well done :toast:
