After the last wave

This photo was taken just before the one I just posted in the ESS forum. I was walking toward my intended destination when I spotted these two surfers getting out of the water and walking toward the sun dropping rapidly, I shot this hand held. I like the dark edges because I think it focus's the viewer to the subject and lifting the shadows too much gave it an hdr ish look which I don't really like in my images. I come from film and like contrast, etc.

Rich, I was afraid of that-it's actually a bird, in print size it shows nicely but here it does look like dust

Great sunset, the colours really bring this to life.

That is a gorgeous shot! The human element really adds a lot IMO.

Gorgeous image Todd. Looks like you handled everything nearly perfectly - no nits from me on the comp or color; one little dust spot (or bird) needs to be cloned - other than that, this is BEAUTIFUL.

Beautiful sunset Todd and the surfers and their reflection add to the mood. Reminds me of of an endless summer. Gorgeous capture.

A classic! What a spectacular sunset. Overall I think the image is a bit dark for printing, but on the web it looks nice. Also, the figures would have stood out better if their heads were over the smooth sand instead of the waves, but unless you'd asked them to pose for you, you probably couldn't have fixed that.

Thanks for the comments so far. Floris, great points, this was a candid shot from a shot series as they were getting out of the water. Also, I do my own printing so I create different files for the web and print. You are correct this would print really dark.

A lovely image, the surfers make the image for me
The bird needs to go though.
Well captured.

Great color and contrast. The silhouette is nice but I really like the reflection on the beach.
