Pentax K 100D with a sigma 170mm-500mm lens, ISO 400, focal length 500mm, f/7.1 at 1/1000 second

This juvenile Bald Eagle was soaking up the sun rays in Hardy Bay of Port Hardy BC. I had a significant amount of patience and persistence to capture this photograph in the wild.

Hi Jerry: Looks like your first post on NPN. Welcome! You sure have an "in your face" shot of this guy. I'm assuming this is captive? If so, it's best to let folks know. It would be helpful if you could also list your camera settings, and lens info with your post to aid people in providing relevant feedback. I like the intent stare and the light on the right side of the image. There is a noticeable halo around the head of the eagle. Again, welcome to NPN. We look forward to more of your images.

Super cool intense stare, especially from a wild baldie! There is a halo around the bird, probably from sharpening...but that's an easy fix. Welcome to a forum dedicated to addicted bird/wildlife photographers. :toast:

Hi Jerry, Welcome to NPN! That's quite a close-up! I like the intense look the eagle is giving you, and the up close view. For me, since the bill is so central, I think it would benefit from having the whole bill in the frame. As noted, there's a pretty noticeable processing halo around the bird, perhaps from an exposure adjustment or other effect? Look forward to seeing more of your work.

A fun portrait, Jerry. It provides a nicely unique perspective. I like the light a lot. I might have sacrificed some shutter speed for more dof here. I'm assuming the bird was perched, and you should be able to get away with quite a low one unless it's really windy. :toast:
