On rocky ground

Gallery: Man & NaturePosted January 10, 2011120 views4 comments
This was taken a few years ago on a bitterly cold and frosty day in the hills above Ystradfellte near Neath in South Wales, UK.
There's a lovely "Limestone pavement", up there in this area.

I decided to convert this image to B&W to concentrate on the lovely shapes and textures without the distraction of colours, I did however add a tone to it.

Konica/Minolta Dynax 7D
Sigma 10-20 EX
4 secs
f22
ISO 100
Probably a 3 stop ND grad (can't remember)
Tripod
Cable release

I was going to upload this in the Earth, Sea & Sky gallery but I'm not sure whether or not the stones in the foreground have been quarried by man in some way over the centuries so it's in this gallery to play safe.

I like the mystical mood here Geoffry. The sepia suits it well. A few minor nits.... I wish the hot spot in the sky was less so and the cloud behind the tree was lighter to highlight the silhouette of the beautiful tree but note things you had control over.

Great comp and choice of toning. It feels like the clouds could be a little lighter- not much, and I'm on my iPad?

The toning is just perfect for this scene. I like the mood here...it's kind of mystic.
