Rose in a Vase

As a Nor'easter blows through dumping 6" of snow, this comp seemed a wonderful contrast.

The BG is a custom texture I made of a shot of the cloud covered sky plus a couple fo "sunlight" dishwashing bubbles under halogen lighting.

Canon 5D MkII 100mm f8.

Great concept! I love the flower and vase. Not sure about the fluffy green stuff - something clean and simple might set off the vase better. To me, the grteen seems to compete.
I'd also like to see more into this beautiful rose, so a slightly different, higher angle might work well too.
Lovely!

I like it! What was used for the background?

Bob:
A very unusual comp indeed - almost look like an underwater shot. The rose is beautiful and the vase eclectic. What is the sponge like green stuff? Wonderful mixed of material and texture :toast:

Bob,

I like all the elements of this individually but they're not working together for me. Flower, bg, and stand are soft and consequently to me this vase seems out of place with them. Given just the vase and the flower, I think you have an interesting textural contrast but the green material and the bg don't work to enhance that but are distractions that keep me from savoring it, if you would. It almost seems to me that the flower is the least significant element of the four.

Guess I'd love to see the flower and vase on a black bg and stand. (smile)

Bob: Like Pat I don't know what to make of this as a whole but I certainly like the individual elements. The vase and BG seem to work OK but I'm not sure about the green base material. However it is certainly a nice step out of the box and a refreshing take. >=))>

Ha, your homemade texture is way better looking than store-bought material! Kudos on that. This is a lovely still life of the rose, too, and a great wintertime adventure. I must visit my local garden store soon with camera in hand.

I like the handling of the rose with vase with the moss at the base. Although the background only has a muted design, I keep trying to figure out just what it is... smoke, water, just a design on a painted board? When studying more closely the vase also has waves along its edge as if the liquify filter has been used. Guess just too many things going on which distract from the subject. :wavey:

I find the BG visually fascinating kind of echoing the petals of the rose
I like it very much
