Puffin in daisies

Taken on Skomer Island in West Wales in 2008 before I knew anything about "virtual feet"
The rabbits on the island had died due to disease at that time and the daisies flourished as a result of not being eaten.
The rabbits were re-introduced so you won't see quite so many daisies growing there nowadays.

I was relatively new to wildlife photography then and had the habit of framing everything tight in-camera which is not always the best thing to do, I've learned a lot since then, especially during the last 5 months or so while I've been a member on this great website.

Top, bottom and right are as taken, I've just cropped a bit off the left.

Sony A350
Sigma 50-500

f7.1
ISO 100
360mm
-0.3 stop exposure compensation
Centre-weighted metering

I like the daisies here - and the fish are great :toast: :toast:

By the way, what happened to the D3 and 200-400?

Thanks Oscar.
My Sony gear has gone off to a camera shop to be sold, some has gone already so I have just the Nikon D3 now plus a 200-400, 70-200 f2.8 and a 14-24.
I was struggling to get sharp images at first with the 200-400, something just wasn't right, the 70-200 was exceptional compared to it.

Myself and 2 of my mates bought between us a device called a "lens align pro", it's for calibrating lens/camera combinations and it works a treat.
Did mine last weekend and my 200-400 needed a +10 focus adjustment in-camera and it's focussing spot on now.

Only thing is the weather has been so dark, wet and misty that I haven't taken any images worthy of uploading on here yet, except for some of my dog on the beach taken with the 70-200, they're brilliant compared to what my Sony could do but not much good for this site.

I'm uploading images from my archives until I get something worthy, got literally hundreds already processed so may as well use them up.

D3 images will come soon no doubt

Geoff.

Ah - maybe I should try the focus tweaker thingy - although I am perfectly happy of the sharpness of my images with it at the moment.

Look forward to seeing them - I'm planning on taking some myself tomorrow :jump:

Interstesting portrait with great detail, would liked to have seen a wider version too well i think, but hindsight is a wonderful thing

Usually you see them on rocks and stones.
Very different Environment but I like it. A lovely contrast.
