seems like some of the best birding shots have the T.C. Do you use it often. Great pic!!!!

Was busy and never got back to complement you on your Sparrow shot.It is top shelf indeed.

Good pose here with the look and talons. It seems a little to processed in the tail area. This comming from someone without the skills to do the job.So take that with more than a grain of salt.

Love the position of the bird Michael. Nice natural looking blue sky BG too. To my eye, the bird's head is just shy of sharp. Just a suggestion - with the Mk. 4 I might have upped my ISO to 800, basically doubling my SS to 1/3200s. That might have provided tack sharp head, feet, and body. My experience so far with the Mk. 4 is ISO 800 is free of appreciable noise up to a 45% crop. Like I stated just a suggestion.

Really like the wing position and spread tail Michael. Nice head turn with good light in the eye. I think Ron B's suggestion is a good one given the camera you're shooting with.

Michael,

Love the great pose, eye contact and the comp you used. Larger version does show a touch of softness in the head, I would try a little more selective sharpening there.

awesome pose there, Mike. agree that it's just shy of tack sharp, but awfully nice nonetheless. I'd love to have a chance with one of these guys--I only see them motoring through on migration, which generally means it's already gone by the time you puzzle out "gee, I guess that had to be a merlin!"

Great wing position and eye contact, Michael. Composition wise, I think I'd be tempted to add some canvas to the bottom and take a bit off the left. I'm probably wrong in my interpretation, but he looks like he's coming down and there's no room for him to go. :toast:

Sweet capture with great lighting... the crop took it's toll on the detail in the larger but still a cool grab

Nice job Michael. Like this flight image. Good Details and I like the spread tail. I'd leave a little more room on the bottom and maybe selectively sharpen the eye a bit.
