I was going to my garage when I saw this squirrel scurry up the tree. I like how he was trying to hide so I snapped the shot. T2i rebel f/5.6 1/2000 sec 180mm ISO 800

Hi Paul,
Looks to me like the squirrel was having fun with you! The positives I like are that you managed to not only show the eye peeking over the edge, it has a catchlight. The main branch at a diagonal is a good compositional element. Your exposure looks good for shooting against the bright sky. The biggest nit would be the many twigs crossing the frame, creating a lot of distracting lines, but there was nothing you could do about that in this situation.

Thanks for the input Lon. To be honest with you the angeled branch was just a fluke. I do need to start thinking in terms of compsition. Im still trying to get out of the point and shoot habbits. I noticed you made a comment about the catchlight in the eye. Is that something that is important to try to get? I have heard that mentioned once before but kind of glanced over it.

Good points as usual by Lon. You'll be amazed how quickly you'll pickup on things in the BG the more you shoot. As for catchlight, its usually desirable to get it in your animal photos because it gives "life" to the animal you're photographing. Its subtle but it does make a difference. Try copying one of your photos and clone out the catchlight in one of them.
