This is an old photo that I am reposting, with some improved post-shutter processing. It was taken in 2004 with a Canon 10D, Canon EF 300/4L, Canon extension tube on a Bogen 3221 tripod. ISO 100, f/5.6 at 1/100th.

Thanks for taking a look!

I like this Jim, particularly the composition and the detail in the center of the bloom. Good subject/ground separation as well. I might darken the leaves at the bottom with a gradient to provide a little more contrast to the bloom and to create a little stronger base but it's a nit. Good looking image as posted.

Jim:
This is a fine take on the dahlia. The yellow is striking and the center is tack sharp. My one suggestion is perhaps to tone down the luminosity level in top portion of the bloom. Also second Pat's suggestion of dimming the leaves.

The soft light and the oof bg really highlight the crisp bloom. The colors are very appealing and I really like how the fg folliage anchors the image. Beautiful!

Nice Dahlia portrait Jim. Too bad the leaf is poking into the bloom's space but whaddaya gonna do? I agree with toning down the upper petals, otherwise a finely detailed and well composed image. :toast:

The centre is beautiful Jim. For the rest, I agree with Pat and with Gary.
Cheers.
