Double-crested Cormorant

Leaving Ft.De Soto Park I noticed several breeding pair of Osprey along a rivers' edge. As I got out to investigate I saw this Cormorant make flight and panned to capture him. The camera settings were set to Auto ISO and that offered an extremely high SS, but had I had the time to reset the camera I would have dropped the ISO considerably and been spared the elevated noise.

Typical PP drill in CS4, NR used behind the bird.

Chuck,

Love the great flight pose of the cormorant especially because the wing is just low enough to be able to see the plumage pattern on it. I like the comp you used and how you left some of the shadow of the cormorant at the bottom of the frame. You have nice details in the darks, if this were mine I might reduce the overall contrast to see if some more detail whould show in the darks. I might also reduce the saturation a little.

Cormorants can fly SO fast and you froze the action well.

Chuck, I'm struck by the eye and water colors here and enjoy the look of concentration on the birds face. I've heard so very much about Ft. DeSoto - glad you had a great time there.
