A couple of brown pelicans closing in on a snack. Taken at the Ventura Marina, not far from the Channel Islands NP headquarters. I was pretty far away and this has been pretty severely cropped to eliminate many distracting elements, resulting in a pretty noisy image that will not make a good enlargement. Still, I thought I'd share it with the group. 1/500 @ f/4.5; ISO 800; 70-200 f/2.8L; handheld.

WOW, that is a wild look here, Craig. Almost looks as though the diving bird is teetering with his bill on the bird in the background. Good action shot.

Nice stop-action image, Craig. I see the pelicans dive-bombing along the Santa Barbara coast all the time, but I never tried to capture the image (and I don't think a 70-200 on a 5D is up to the task anyway, a little too short). Nicely done.

You're certainly right on about the reach of the lens, Harley. I was up early to shoot some sunrise surf shots with just the one lens. When the pelicans began to dive bomb into a school of fish, I thought I'd chance a few shots anyway.

Great action shot, Craig. It's always ineresting to see the habits of critters.

Nicely done!

Good shot. Would like more clarity but the dynamic quality of both diving birds works nicely.
