Hawk Island, Isle Royale

This is a three shot HDR of the west end of Hawk Island in Isle Royale National Park. Although the water of Lake Superior is very clear, it is rarely calm enough to see the details of the rocks on the bottom. I used Photomatix to combine 3 bracketed exposures to get the sky, water and land within the same exposure range. Taken with a Canon 50D with a polarizer on a 17-55mm lense at f13, 1/50 sec exposure on a tripod.

Nicely done. You could post this on the Man and Nature since you have a kayak in the photo.

Interesting image. I like the kayak in there. It gives great perspective. I only wish the foreground rocks were not the brightest part of the image. My eye tends to get stuck there. The horizon line is a bit crooked. I see a sleeping lions face in the bulk of the rock. Just some of my thoughts when looking at this image. I do love the splash of color in this. Looks like a fascinating place.

I like the overall scene and agree the kayak gives a great perspective to the image. The colors seem a bit warm here, especially in the sky, and the tips of the trees are competing with the horizon line (which needs a tilt up from the right). You have given me renewed inspiration to get up there and see IRNP in person.
