Tracks in the Snow

There has been snow on the ground for my visits to Cedar Canyon Wildlife Area south of Scottsbluff. There are Coyote tracks everywhere. My next step is to put myself in the position to photograph the Coyote. I found a very well used game trail there last week and I will be staking it out to see what I get. There were Big Horn Sheep, deer, Coyote and some small mammal tracks in the snow on the trail.

You'll probably never sell a picture of tracks, but this is a good example of a coyote hunting. There's no regularity to to foot falls, which means that it's checking out all of the grass hummocks for rodents.

Say hi the the Western Nebraska landscape. I lived in Big Springs and my grandparents farmed just outside of Lewellan. I love that country!

Richard, I like how you made use of a diagonal composition here. The low light and the shadows of the grasses help a lot to bring out the texture (as always with tracks, early morning is the best time to do tracking). Nicely done. I hope you will find the coyote.

I just wanted to comment on Mark's remark:

Perhaps not as a large fine art print, but it is certainly sale-able for editorial purposes!

I love how the snow keeps a record of things that transpire on it. Lovely capture of that.

Great detail in the snow and I like the way the tracks lead the viewer into the image.
