Been busy trying to put out my Night Photography guide......so have been away and man have I missed it!!! Some great stuff below!
This is from thsi past November at the location where we all stand for at sunset! A bit of a different take! I give out all my settings, tips, and tricks for star trails and star points in the guide including painting and some unexpected tips. You can find it on my blog or my website.
Canon 1D Mark 3 and the 17-40mm lens and ISO 6400 for 30 seconds.

I think this is stunning, and a marvelous take on an icon that is shown so differently most of the time. I really admire this.

Only thing is, especially in the larger size, there is a lot of color noise evident in the foreground that takes a little away from the scene. Nuke that color noise and this will sing!

Excellent shot Roman. The exposure is just right for the scene and gives it a wonderful, mystical quality. My only nit would be to agree with Jason that it could use some more noise reduction.

Very nice Roman. I've never seen an image from here under the stars. I like it.

Love the composition and balance between foreground light and the background star capture. Not suprised at some degree of noisyness at iso 6400!. I would have expected a little bit of star movement at 30 seconds. Anyway, great image.

This is beautiful Roman! I love the way the lights of Springdale add a bit of glow to the watchman. Shooting this scene in the fall really added pop to the foreground cottonwoods too. Well done!

Nice take on this place. Amazing how many stars the camera can see. They really do look like jewels.

This is stunning, Roman. What really makes the image for me is the lighting on the trees and rock formations. Well done!

Very cool shot Roman. This is a unique image from this location. Large version is a bit noisy, but I still really like it.

I'm going to assume that you're on the 1d4 and not 3 as the 3 doesnt go up that high with the iso? Rising moon? Epic indeed here. Wonder how large this could be printed at that iso? Kudos

Cool shot Roman. The light on the frees and river is pretty sweet. Yes the large version is noisy but still a nice capture. Why not a longer exposure and less ISO? :toast:
