Black Howler

Before visiting the Pantanal in Brasil I didn't realise that there are so many species and subspecies of Howlers. Despite the name only the grown-up males of this species are black. The females and youngsters are brownish. This group of Howlers was fouraging in a tree next to a watch tower. Great opportunity to make photos on the same eye level!

Nice handling of the blacks on this on Ellen, and a great catchlight in his eyes His positioning with the curled tail also helps with composition.
Much better than anything I was able to get from a ground vantage point.
Congrats! :toast:

Cool shot, impressive for the perspective! You did a great job of keeping detail in the blacks in what seems to be pretty bright conditions. I appreciate how the draping tail balances the composition and you have good catchlights.

Fantastic image Ellen! The eye level POV indeed makes this powerful and your composition is simply perfect IMO. The bright green leaves isolate the black fur very well. The exposure is well handled, despite what looks like rather harsh light conditions. All in all; thumbs up! :toast:

Very nice setting, Ellen. The eye level view is remarkable as well, since we normally see them from above.
