Ice core

Hey, guys and girls!
When the river near my house freezes, I'm one of the first to try the thickness of the ice. With constant temperatures way below 0C these past weeks, it was pretty safe to walk on it. So, just like last year, I began my search for the trapped air bubbles. It's quite tricky to find them as snow usually covers the ice, but I sometimes get lucky. I hope you like it.

Great find Dorin! I too like to hunt for bubbles in the ice of the pond near my home. With all the snow we have had, I'll be lucky to see any this year so I will just have to sit here and enjoy yours! Wonderful abstract.

It looks like a shot from outer space. Fascinating scene.

This is great, Dorin. There is a lot of depth to this, after looking for awhile it is like 3D. Very cool image, and a nice find.

Now that's very cool. I like how the light ones in the center and the edge images combine to look like stars exploding out of the big bang.

I find these bubbles infinitely fascinating. The dark depths below are so sinister in tone; like souls frozen in time... Nice work DB!

Interesting comp. Sort of feels like I'm on the Enterprise and we're just firing up the warp drive. I like the abstract quality to this and how it stimulates the imagination.

Pretty cool, Dorin--i like the exploding supernova-like quality to it! The brightest spots in ice bubbles are always a bit problematic--toning them down is usually not very helpful or practical, but theyre not too distracting here, overall i like this a lot.

All these great ice images make my neck hurt as I jealously walk head down around everywhere that I am.
Great shot, Dorin - these aren't as easy as they look.

Really good find. I kinda wish the bubble trails were a tad longer though, giving more of a sense of motion.

So do you bring a broom or shovel when the snow gets to deep. Nothing to nit here it all looks good to me. Love that one bubble that looks like a splash just off center right and just over half way from the bottom. The sense of motion the receding bubbles create is awesome. Great find. Cheers

Dorin,

Awesome! I'd be curious to know if there was any blue in the original scene? If so, the color version would be killer too. Still, a fascinating and well captured nature abstract.
