Here's another of the my Reddish Egret series from last spring - thanks for all of the kind and constructive comments on my last post - very helpful. I had been tracking this adult Reddish Egret as it landed on these mangroves. All of a sudden a chick popped its head up and the feeding session began, I had no idea there was a nest buried in there - great fun.

Canon 7D, 600 MM, 1/1000 @ f 6.3, ISO 400
Manual exp., pattern metering, tripod, 45% of FF

Commets and critiques greatly appreciated

This would have been fun just to observe, much less photograph Randy. Really like the behavior, especially with the youngster poking its head up - seemingly out of nowhere.

I too like the action here Randy. Cool to see the young bird "attacking" the adult to get its food. I used the word attack because after watching so many wading bird parents feed their young it always struck me how aggressive the young birds were. Always interesting to watch.

Randy,

Great interaction between the adult and chick, love the wing position of the adult, the view of both eyes of the birds and the setting. Great natural colors, details & sharpness.
