Frigid!

My first attempt at an intentional high key processed image. I thought this group of trees looked like it was huddled together trying to keep warm. processing and comp/crop are all intentional here, so it either works for you, or maybe not. I'd love to hear your thoughts. larger version included, as always. Thanks!

D200,
18-70mm,
1/10sec, +1/2 stop exposure comp,
f/11,

Thanks,
Chris

I like the huddled together feeling as you mentioned - great eye for the relationships between the trees. I also like the high key processing you were going for. Not sure what it is - but the darker mid tones seem slightly out of the sync with the bright whites - maybe bring those up a bit - it's like it seems half way high key, if that makes sense. Also, as a suggestion, my eye would like a little extra room at the top of the frame. Another great one!

I really like it Chris. I think the processing works well to enhance the scene and the trees create some interesting lines. I think theres just enough contrast as well. I've had a similar shot in my head recently with all the snow we've been getting, just waiting to find the right stand of trees.
Cheers

Gorgeous image Chris. The larger version just isn't large enough!! I would love to see this at 24x36 or so. The snow on the lower bark is intriguing and beautiful. Comp is pretty much perfect, except it seems a little hemmed in on the sides. Perhaps that was unavoidable; I will at least assume so since your comps are generally spot on. Processing is excellent. All in all, a true visual treat and a feast for the eyes.

Andrew,

Thanks! You are right, it is only kind of half high key, as the only thing I pushed beyond my normal processing was the white point.

Your processing works extremely well for me, I especially like the delicate brown shades. The composition is balanced and consistent.

I think you processed it wonderfully. I was originally thinking it might be nice to crop a bit off the top, but then the balance of the image is completely thrown off. It works for me, for sure. I like it!

Strong lines and good tones. It works for me.
This isn't overly contrasty. Correct me if I'm
wrong, but I don't believe that high key is
supposed to emphasize contrast. If I'm
right, this is well exposed and well handled
for high key.

Well, I knew it was yours just from the thumbnail. I like the scene and don't find this overdone at all. It is a nice winter image. I do find the comp to be a bit tight on the left and at the top. Great work as usual Chris. I hope all is well.

Another beauty. Ditto on the tight top and left, but still very nice. And the high-key looks fine to me.

Very nice, Chris! I think your interpretation here is excellent given that there are many possible variations. I would like to see just a smidge of space above the tallest tree.

Just a note, if you decide to print this. The high values may need to be brought down just a bit so that the paper surface will not be visible.

Good job!

Stunning image, Chris. Love the composition, the wonderful lines of the trees, and the resultant contrast from your development of the image is perfect in my opinion. Superbly done.

Of course I like it! High key processing is one of my fav proc. styles. Hey this looks like the trees from "Realizing A Dream". This is as good and shows your skill to find two very strong compositions in a confined space. You would love to work "my" Lobau in Vienna...

A great mood perfectly conveyed here Chris. I love the snow falling and the way you have captured it. The lack of colour is perfect too. Cheers

Love this one Chris! You continue to amaze me with your captures and actually are kinda ticking me off! JK man. I'm really impressed with your work and what you came home with.

And from the same old stand of trees, you've captured yet another unique and wonderful view.

Can't complain about anything here, although I do wish it was mine!
