Aspen Spin-off

Inspired by the classic aspen close-ups, I tried my hand with a different species. This stand of bamboo grows on the grounds of the Mendocino NF Genetic Resource and Conservation Center outside of Chico. An interesting horticultural preserve containing many non-native species. Since this was sort of abstract to begin with, I processed a series of duplicate layers with high pass filtering and multiply blending to achieve a look bordering on painterly.

Original image data: 2.5 sec @ f/22; 93mm; ISO 200; 24-105 f/4L; EOS 5D Mk2; tripod. Any feedback is much appreciated.

I really like the graphic quality of this Craig, maybe bump up the contrast to make it more so. Lots of yellow in this, don't know if it's too much or the scene was "yellow".

Craig, I really like the idea of close-ups of bamboo stands. Any chance you could post the original image for comparison?

This is a nice shot that I find interesting. The saturation in the greens and yellows looks a tad high. I like the detail.

I like the scene, Craig. Fascinating lines on the bamboo trunks. I would agree with Preston regarding the saturation.

Thanks to all for your feedback. I'll continue to work on this with it in mind. Barbara, here's what the original looked like before the pp.
