Short-eared Owl

Olympus E5, 150mm, EC20, f9, 1/1250, ISO 200, handheld out vehicle window

It was fairly dark here, and still snowing lightly. This was one of the 11 SEO's I found 2 days ago. This one did not fly away and gave quite a few poses.

I really like this Dave - wonderful pose at the perfect angle to show it off, nice head turn and Montana fenceposts and wire - what more could I want? I do see a narrow halo, mostly along the top of the owl where the darks meet the snow but that's minor and fixable. Neat shot.

Dave, the pose of the SEO caught my attention. But until I opened the larger image did I appreciate the sharpness. The smaller image seems dark but the larger image just pops for me. I like the way the fence leads me to the owl and the diagonal formed by the head to the wing.

Love the pose David! Great views of the talons of this owl too. I like the comp you used and how well the bird stands out from the snowy background.

Love the wing stretch pose Dave. Perfect look at the leg and foot. I like the comp with the fence post and snowy BG. Bird is tack sharp. Well done.

Lovely shot, Dave! Strange how amongst a few, one of them would be comparatively tame and thus co-operative. We have one such bird here this winter.

Love the "stretch" and pose of this owl. Different from the norm. The barbed wire on the fence adds to the sense of place. Well done.

This is super cool. I love the pose and great detail. I can get a feel of the falling cold snow as well.
