Tulip Portrait

Staged shot in my basement with a new lighting setup. I struggled with some hot spots on the vase. Some definition needed to remain, but I tried to remove any highlights that were too much. Wondering if the final result is acceptable?

Pentax K-7, f/14, 4.0 sec, ISO-200; Tamron 90mm macro.

Thanks for taking the time to look, C&C appreciated.

Regards,
Derek

Derek: When I first glanced at the thumbnail I thought it was one of Pat's. I hope you will take that as the high compliment it was meant to be. I think the lighting is fantastic. The amount of light on the vase is just right. I like this a lot. >=))>

Gorgeous portrait. Excellent color and the lighting lends a great deal of mood. I wonder what it might look like as a vertical pano to emphasize the nice long lines?

Derek, This is a keeper.
Final result is very acceptable.
I like Morris' suggestion of a long lean vertical panoramic. Add a touch of canvas to the top.

Well done,

Carol

I'd disagree with Bill on this one Derek. I'd say it's better than one of Pat's. I love that fade into blackness at the bottom. Beautiful image. I do like Morris' suggestion but other than that, this is pretty much perfect for my tastes.

Derek, this is gorgeous !
The light is wonderful, but I do wonder how it would be with just a tiny bit more light.
I also think a vertical pano would work perfectly here - but excellent just as is!

Gorgeous lighting, in particular, the spotlighting effect on the blossoms. When I first saw this I was thinking too much dark BG but the more I look the more I like what you've done and wouldn't change a thing. :toast:

Derek, I like the effect here, but would like SLIGHTLY more light on the vase. The vase is structurally interesting and would like to see a little more of the swirl. It could be perfect in print; the web does weird things. Great image!!

Very dramatic and effective lighting Derek. It works well but personally I would prefer just a bit more a highlight on the rim of base of the vase. For me the fade to black makes the vase more important than the combined flower/vase aspect. :wavey:

I like the way that you set this up, Derek. the lighting is nice,
and the positioning of the tulips is well composed.
