Diamond Dove
by Simon Bennett
Diamond Dove photographed at Bowra, western Queensland. Went for fairly tight framing to minimise the ugly tangle of shadowy sticks the bird was perched on.
Canon 7D, EF500 f/4 + 1.4x, tripod, qwick camo, ISO 400, f/8, 1/1000. Large crop: 23% of full frame.

13 commentsI never paid a lot of attention to doves when I only had to contend with one species (Mourning Dove) in New Jersey, but since moving to the desert southwest I've been paying more attention to all the dove species and have developed a fondness for them.
This is really interesting species that I'd not heard of until your post. I love the orbital ring color with the red iris.
