Canon 1D Mark 4 With EF 500mm f4 & 1.4 tc
1/320 sec, F 7.1, ISO 1000

Took this shot today at one of the state parks in my area. He got surprisingly close. The over cast sunlight was helpful to this exposure. Thank you for looking and commenting.

Perfect exposure - these guys are tough with both the black and the white.
Really nice detail, pose, eye, and reflection. The underwater leg is neat, too.
Well done!

Micheal,

Great look at this coot's red eye and wonderful exposure of the bill, those bills can be very easy to blow out too! I like the reflection and how the coot's foot is visible under the water

I'm really drawn to the exposure/detail on the bill and shield here - quite unusual to have them presented this well. I also enjoy seeing that lobed foot through the water.

Excellent exposure and natural color, great details Michael.
Love the red eye, and that yellow foot that's visible adds nicely.
Well done! :toast:

That's a superb exposure, Michael. Getting the head, the bill and the shield right is very challenging. I'm sure the overcast helped, but it's still tough to get right. Well done.

As others have said, these are very difficult to portray well. You have done good!

Your exposure looks great and I like it that you can see a foot. On my monitor, I am wondering if a tiny bit of contrast might help.
