Snow in the Smokies

Taken in Great Smokey Mountain National Park a few years ago just after a fresh snow. This was shot on slide film and I don't have any techs on it. Sometimes I take images that I like, but I don't know how others will react to them. I would appreciate your comments, especially on the comp. Thanks for your input.

Hi Richard, I see a lot of spring and fall pictures from the Smokies, but not so many from winter. This looks like a really pretty place. I like the snow covered trees on the diagonal hillside, and the more distant valley and hills looks great with the green/snow mix and fog or haze. Looks like the light was very nice too. The foreground branch doesn't work to well for me. The ones on the sides of the frame would probably be ok but the very close lower one seems a little too close. Just my feeling looking at this. No matter, it is a beautiful winter view. I need to make it there!

Hi Richard,

I with Nick on this one. Your capture of the slopes in the middle and background portions of the image I could look at all day long. For me, the branches in the front are a little too much in your face. Thanks so much for sharing.

Richard, I have to agree with the previous comments. Its a beautiful scene, and OK as is, but the foreground branch is just a little too strong (and out of focus). In my opinion, the image would be much stronger without the foreground group of branches. All the other side branches and the distant scene is really nice.

The in-your-lens front branches make for a great frame and somewhat unusual but effective compositional element.
