Simplicity

Uncompahgre National Forest, Colorado

I have to confess my jealousy of all the great black and white images from Yosemite that have been posted here recently. I'm just too busy with volleyball coaching to get out and shoot anything or go anywhere, thus this archived photo from fall of 2009 and my attempt to play the black and white game.

Canon 5Dmk2, 70-200 f/4

Perfect title for this one. The dark background and shooting at f/4 really put the emphasis on the single trunk - nicely done!

I love the texture and mood brought out by the black and white, and of the course the single trunk as the focal point is outstanding. I kind of think the trunk at the top and bottom is a little dark, but that's my one small nit. Great work!

Fitting title for a nicely composed image. The out of focus trunks on the left give balance to the wavy trunk.

You are a master of these tree trunk images Jimmy. I like your choice of B&W conversion and the shimmering light on the right side of the trunk. Beautiful and ethereal.

I like this a lot Jimmy. The selective focus and the lighting work really well together for a compelling image.

Weird. I commented on this image yesterday but my comment is gone. ??

It's the departure from simplicity that makes this work so well. The eerie out of focus trunks on the left play a very important role.
