Grandfather Tree

I was just going through some of my photos and I found this fantastic tree. I love trees and I particularly like the strong lines of the branches as they extend out from the trunk. This was taken with my favorite lens, the 14-24mm. I don't get to use it all that often but when I do, I love the results. The tree was situated in the front yard area of one of the plantation homes converted into a B&B so there is more in the background than I would have liked. However, I thought it was still too good to not photograph. Feedback is welcome.

Fabulous tree. It has great structure and space. a real sense of presence. You might consider cropping the bottom up to just below the lower branches. You lose the busy bg and the image becomes all about the tree.

You've done a great job of capturing the shape and texture of this tree. I find the background useful in putting the tree into context and the tree is strong enough compositionally to dominate. It would be interesting to see the crop that Nancy suggests, but I think it would create a very different feeling.
