Chase County Falls, KS

A common misconception remains about good ole flat Kansas. Here is an image meant to refute the notion that all of Kansas is flat and without character. Chase County Lake Falls was running beautifully yesterday and with the bright overcast sky the colors of the surrounding geology really shone through.

Great scene, Wayne. I really like the colors. Great evidence to dispel the rumors you mention above.

Nice perspective, Wayne, and I like the shutter speed too. That does look like a good amount of water. I was wondering what the falls looked like now, thanks for posting. Is that ice in the upper right? I didn't realize it was that cold.

Hey Wayne, Nice capture. Looks a little different from our "Flint Hills Tour" of a couple of years ago. I like the balance and how the reddish rock in the center of the shot offsets the pinkish colored sky. This follows the axiom from Darwin Wiggett, "Poor light - Shoot tight".

I'm with Ken - Looks like ice in the corner.

Nicely done, Wayne. I'm glad to see some water running, as the area is one of the places I'm considering going in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the comments. The water was flowing at a very nice pace. And yes, that is a small patch of ice in the upper right corner of the image.

The eye-catcher for me is the similar color of sky and the mid-area of rock.
Then the contrast with the subtle green tone and white water.
Water, to me, is exposed just right. I'm not one for over-doing the water flow thing.
Wayne has done a great job, as usual.

Waterfalls in Kansas? Who'd of thunk? You've captured a nice scene Wayne. I like the sky color and the texture of the water. I'm always amazed at the colors of the various layers of rock we find in nature. This is a great example.
