Here is one more image from Rocky Mountain National Park last September during the rut. This bull was jealously guarding his lady friends. Thanks for all of your comments. Cropped to about 75% because of some people moving in to the background.

Richard, I like the overall scene of this. Not sure where you made the crop, but if you have more room on the left, I would be tempted to add it back so the cow isn't so close to the frame since she plays an integral part in telling the story. Nice job exposing this in what looks like tough light. Looks like Morraine Park to me right after the road curves to the left and downhill?

Very nice narrative image Richard :^) I particularly like the way the female seems to be winking at you ... which probably explains the expression on the bull's face - LOL ;^)

I also agree with Kurt's comment, regarding the female a tad too close to the edge for the reasons he pointed out.

Kind regards,

Ashley

I read why you cropped but it would of been nice to see some more room on both sides. I like the look and detail on the bull in the larger image. Nice job of handling the bright light and the pose of the bull makes this shot for me, way to go.

I like the tension in the bull's pose and having the cow looking at you helps also.

I like the way you framed the subjects here Richard. The bull really plays the leading role, supported by the cows in the background. Good dof, exposure, detail... I do wonder a bit about the appearance of "something blue" in the trees of the background? I assume the people you are referring to are photographers trying to get closer to the elk? (And perhaps are the "something blue"?)

Hi Richard,

Nice story being told be this image. Technically well-done, especially given the harsh lighting you were dealing with. I'm fine with the amount of space to the right of the bull, but if those people aren't on the left side of the frame, I'd add a little more room on that side - that cow feels just a tad too close to the edge of the frame for my taste.

Cheers...thanks for sharing this..
