Wildfire and re-growth

Areas burned in the last major wildfires in Yosemite are starting slowly to re-grow. Bits of green can be seen here. Image taken July, 2010

The global warming and droughts are devastating the National Parks. Severely weakened, the trees cannot withstand the bark beetle infectations, and are dying at a rapid rate. The drought and heat have extended the wildfire season, with devastating results.

The loss of habitat and food also affects the anumals - and is thought to have played a role in the grizzly attacks on humans last summer in Yellowstone.

There is a good article in the current issue of Men's Journal about the droughts and bear attacks - exerpts here - scroll down to "Paul Solotaroff's " THE GHOST PARK"

The vertical version is significantly stronger because the framing foliage focuses attention on the lines in the foreground burn.

I agree with Mark, Sandy. The vertical comp is quite strong compared to the horizontal. The way the lines sweep (and swoop!), my eye is nicely carried from foreground to background with notable hallmarks all along the route. It strongly helps amplify your point!

Sandy, I prefer the vertical version too, and I even think of cropping the sky. A very specific atmosphere you show us here. I have been to Yosemite in 1986, it is one of my favorite places in Northern America. It was shocking for me to hear about the devastating events. Thanks for sharing!
