Carnic Peace Trail

During Worldwar I the Carnic Alps at the Austrian-Italian border were a scene of heavy fights. This image was taken from inside a bunker, in the background you see Monte Peralba. I could understand the soldiers longing for peace and freedom.

Nowadays, the Carnic high-alpine trail or "Peace Trail" follows the whole Carnic ridge running along the border between Austria and Italy, about 155km.

I took this shot in 1980 with my first SLR, a Minolta 100x with Sekor 50mm/1.7, Ilford PanF 50, developed in Ilford Perceptol.

Relic war fixtures like this are prime candidates for EPJ, Peter. While this doesn't shout "war," the black and white treatment certainly helps create the mood you are after. Well done.

I like the b&w treatment and the misty bg. Gives the image a lonely feel.

Peter,

Interesting photo and a compelling image especially in it's historical context. It does have an emotion to it and I'm sure being there you felt it even stronger. Such a lonely outpost with death as your closest companion.
