Varied Thrush (+REPOST for BG)
by KC Choo
Very same VATH that has been around all winter in my backyard, but it has taken me the better part of 2 months to finally get him to my set-up as I envisioned it! This he did yesterday, but even then for only a few moments!
I use native perches for set-ups, but the only colour (other than green or black) I have around for the BG is the flowering Heather (alluna vulgaris), which is an imported plant - I'll just believe they were from the Scottish Highlands originally!
1D MkIV, 500mm, 1/200 @ f5.6, ISO1000, no flash, tripod.
Thanks for looking; I'd be very interested in your reactions regarding the BG.

24 commentsIn specific regards to the BG. . .it is obvious (to me) that it's "fake" and not a photo of a bird that was stumbled upon in the wild. But it sets the bird off nice and is a nice compliment to the beautiful colors this thrush has. A Varied Thrush made Central Park it's winter home but I can't be bothered to go all the way to the city and look for it!
I envy you having this species in your own backyard!
Yes, the BG is a bit overpowering, which is why I asked for your thoughts. But, those who enjoy heathland golf courses in the UK will appreciate my love of heather - to look at only, of course!

BTW, very much enjoyed an afternoon of looking through your marvelous collection of images over on your website yesterday, particularly the Kingfishers you've been fortunate enough to come across on your travels around the globe :^)
And a quick word of thanks to Charlie for pointing me in your direction ;^)
Cheers to you both :^)

I'm just a little puzled about the color of the BG...
