Nice job hand holding the 500 James. 1/640 is not a fast SS for hand holding and you did very well. More DOF would have been nice, but I completely understand that going slower on the SS to allow you to close down more was not an option when hand holding that much focal length. Love the sharpness where it couns, the BG, and the perch. Really nice look at this bird's face. Well done.

I like this image. The sharpness of the bird, the tail out of focus does not bother me, the background, and the perch. The only thing is a little more room under the feet. Great image.

James, I agree with the thrust of the two previous comments - you've done an admirable job hand holding that lens in this light and at that shutter speed and I also wish for a bit more room at bottom. The bird seems slightly centered for my tastes. All nits though since I really like the image. Nicely done.

A little tight on the bottom but nice look at the birds face and identifying markers

Nice detail on the head and breast. I agree with others that could use more room at the bottom. The thrasher is a bit centered. Attractive bird!

Don't know how you guys handhold that 500 but you did it well. Nice sharp face and I too would like a bit more dof but can see why not

Excellent pic. Real nice feather and eye detail, great colors. Sharp where it needs to be. I agree on giving it a little more room at the bottom. Well done.
