Seed Thief

What to do when the birds are not feeding? Take a picture of a sunflower seed seed thief on your set up. Actually I get a kick out of these guys, up to a point, and black oil sunflower seed is pretty cheap. They may even serve a useful purpose occasionally. I looked out the window at the feeder the other day and saw 3 or 4 cardinals perched right where I'd like to get the picture, just waiting for a squirrel to vacate the feeder. Might not be so quick to chase them off the next time I'm sitting in the blind.

Canon 40D, 100-400 IS L at 200mm, 1/800 sec, f/8, iso 400, full frame. Minimal processing is CS5 camera raw. A couple of seeds cloned out. All C&C welcomed.

Cute little guy with good detail. The squirrils at our place eat more bird seed than the birds do.

some great light on this little bloke! nice colours overall - I just find that it might need a touch more sharpening on this version - sharpness is fine on the larger version

Very nice exposure and detail, Larry. Like the pose and perch, also.

The colors in the setting really help make this one. Classic pose, too. I wonder if you had tried a wider apertrue if you could have rendered the tendrils of juniper behind his back and head a little less defined. Good capture.

Thanks for looking and for the comments, guys. One of these days I am just going to have to spend some extended time where there are big animals. For now squirrels and chipmunks will have to do.
