Common Redpoll

Olympus E-5, 300mm x 2.0TC, tripod
f5.7, 1/250, ISO640

Not as much depth of field as I'd hoped, but perhaps enough detail to be acceptable?

This guy was there for the sunflower chips, along with a couple hundred of his closest friends. By an order of magnitude, Interior Alaska's commonest bird. 80% of full frame. Selective sharpening of bird; noise reduction to background (which is a black spruce tree).

C & C, please. Thanks for looking.

Great frontal detail, Jim. IMO it would be much better if the top of the head and the feathers around the edges had been within the DOF. You must have been right on top if this little fella.

This is a particularly rosy looking individual Jim. I hadn't noticed the dark chestnut coloration around the base of the beak before, very nice. I do agree a bit more dof would have been helpful. The dark background is particularly attractive for this bird's coloration. :toast: :toast:

Real nice pic. Great background, nice pose, and eye contact. I agree about the dof. Other than that well done.

Excellent, Jim! Looks like I'll have to go to your State to get me some of these!

IMO you got detail where it mattered most. The pose is nice and he stands out quite well from the bg. A lovely image, all in all.

It may be common in Alaska, but out here we get them only sparingly in winter. I like the head turn and the fluffed feathers. The dark background sets up the redpoll very well. The shallow dof works well as the bird occupies most of the frame and the legs are partially hidden.

Not common around here. I've never seen one and they are pretty. I love the pose and feather detail. Would have loved as little more dof on the bird
