I kind of fell in love with these guys. The entire frame was only more of the water you see here, and the group of hooded mergansers. They are obviously very much too far away to make an image of one or even two or three of them, but with this many it's maybe a portrait of the group, and maybe the group as a whole is large enough. Cropping could have been done any of a dozen ways. Feedback on whether you'd crop less or differently and anything else would be greatly appreciated. I think for sure you'll need to look at the larger version of this one. Thank you!

Beautiful photo. Great water color and reflections. It would have been nice for all them to be facing the same direction but cannot always get what we want. I like the crop. Well done.

Hysterical...poor little guy left behind.

Obviously this photo has a story to tell. The 2 leaders, having almost complete reflections and being in formation followed by the "confused" ones, make their status perfectly clear :jump: Those two have an "attitude. Love it.... :jump:

a nice collection of mergansers, Barbara. I like your comp and the serene feeling of this. I think a little CW rotation is in order. There are noticable halos around the birds, probably from selective brightening, but easily fixed.

This group doesn't work for me, but then I rarely can pull off a group shot that looks good anyway. There is too much chaos in this group as shown - I don't care for the bird near the end looking off axis, nor do I think the overlapping heads in the middle of the group help the image.

There's also a major processing issue - a strong halo around the heads thaat I assume comes from some tonal adjustment.

The ripples in the water are doing some funky things with the reflections of the leading bird and also of the trailing bird. It's unfortunate they were so far out. They're an interesting bunch.
