Shadow Play

Anyone getting tired of winter yet?

Some of the trees that I photographed earlier in the season have now disappeared, swallowed up by the snow. Locally I believe the hills are buried in 6 meters of the white stuff.

This is very, very nice Adam. I really like the form you have here with the wonderful blue color and snow. Your comp worked great for that. Nice texture in the snow also. I'm thinking the bg blue is another shadow because it is so close in color to what I know is shadow, or is it sky? Doesn't make any difference, just wondering. After looking again pretty much sure it is all shadow. If we had snow like this yet I would be happy to be out taking pictures in it. Beautiful shot!

Wonderful winter scene, simple yet it tells a story. I personally am not really ready for winter to end. :toast:

Yikes, can you say "tree well"?!

As far as the image, I really like the sensual, subtle lines and shapes. The contrast between light and shadows is great, too. I would be tempted to crop a little from the bottom.

How can you get tired of winter when it gifts you with sweet scenes like this one? Simplicity is outstanding and the blue snow shadows suggest late afternoon. I feel right at home with this image and I love it. Very nicely done

Wonderful, Adam! Most of all I like the simplicity of this.
The shadows make for a nice contrast, plus you composed
with good diagonal lines. Have you experimented with a B&W?
I doubt that B&W could top this.

I really dig the play of light and shape here Adam
great detail in the snow too

I'm wondering if a slight crop from the bottom will improve this one?

Well seen and captured! For some reason the tree top reminded me of a dolphin jumping out of the water in the larger version.

Lovely scene and great texture in the snow. The trees look to me like a creature trying to walk out of a never ending snowscape and it's companion who's fallen. Yes, the weather folks are talking about snow flurries here this weekend, aaarrrgggghhhhh.

Pretty sweet, Adam. I think this shot would look equally spectacular in B&W, but I love it in color as well. I'm guessing you're in the Pacific Northwest?

Nick- The blue in the urc is another shadow cast by a small hillside.

Joe- I haven't used the old 4x5 for quite some time now. I still have all of the kit as I know that I'll most likely pick it up again.

Justin- Yes I live in the Pacific Northwest, although technically speaking I live in the Pacific Southwest as I am located in Canada.

Thanks guys!

Nice graphical image! Im curios if you could have separated the tree from the shadow behind. It still works wonderfully for me though.

Excellent use of light on a simple but attractive subject, as usual. The framing might be a little bit loose, but it still feels nice.

I'm not tired of winter necessarily, but I'm excited for spring.

Looks like a penguin that had too much of winter. These glimpses of winter never get tiring. Maybe a slightly tighter crop left and bottom. :toast:

Wow! The texture in the snow and the complimentary shade of blue is almost mesmerizing 8^. Although I'm a real novice when it comes to landscapes, I know what I like, even if I don't completely understand why, and I have to say I like this image a lot! Well done and congratulations on being chosen for Editors Pick :^)

Wonderful. Maybe I would have liked the tip less merged with the shadow in the background, but I guess the diagonal created by the cast shadow might have changed diminishing the effect of the image? Lovely image in any case...
