This is two photos actually, I wanted to get some detail from inside the "cave" (it was really a tunnel) so I had to expose for that and then expose for the outside.

The thing was sort of scary, I didn't like being in there much at all. I didn't want it to collapse on me and me die a horrible death of crushed body parts and hypothermia. I got my camera attached to my tripod, ran in, set up, took two photos and booked it out of there, not even letting my "model" John strike a pose.
The "cave" is on Mt Hood, the mountains in the distance are Mt. Adams on the right and Rainier on the left.

Excellent job on the merging of these two imges. I was enjoying the view of the distant mountain so much that I almost missed theother hiker in the LR corner. Perhaps just a tad more lightness in this area would add even more drama?

Excellent concept and execution, Mark! I really like the fact that your model isn't posed. I could go either way on adding more light there. It was nice to kind of stumble onto him there.

I understand your discomfort with ice caves. I watched a friend back his kayak into one in an iceberg. He got a dynamite photo, but the moment after he paddled out the iceberg rolled over and submerged the cave. That great, huge monster didn't make a sound doing it either. My friend insists that his spray skirt was off, and therefore his pants got wet from water dripping off the paddle.

very well made image. Nice job on merging the two, I was about to ask the question 'how did you get all those details inside the cave'..but got the answer

Very cool, Mark  I love the upper frame of the cave with the jagged edges...makes it scray just looking at it! Nicely done on the exposure blendings and John looks a bit "wary" himself!!!
