David you inspired me with your black and white posting of a hummer and flowers a couple of days ago.

I've been heading over to the Cactus Garden here in Henderson and somehow a little hummer always manages to call to my lens.

In this one, I turned the background black and white but kept the hummer in her natural colors.

Into the Future has a totally different feel to it.

This has been a fun project and a great way to get back into shooting.

Comments and ideas most welcome.

I like this a lot Carol. The desaturation of color in everything but the hummer really emphasizes the bird. I also like the vignetting with lighter tones and overall size of the frame as it gives a definitive sense of scale to the relatively small hummer. Wonderful results.

Nice color on the bird! This image has a soothing feeling to me. Also the curves in the plant add a dynamic feeling.

I really admire both versions. One of the unlooked for pleasures of perusing the work on this site are the moments when you are caught by surprise, just as I was with this image, at how someone chooses to present their subject. Very different, very lovely. Perfectly suited to the delicacy of the bird, itself, and effectively softens those imposing and spiny succulents the hummer is hovering among. :toast:

Done very nicely, Carol. Really like the way you've desaturated the background and left the bird with color.
