Black-necked Stilt

Galveston Tx. 3/26/11 (It was my daughter's wedding day and I went out and shot images for 5 hours  )

D3 ISO 400. 300/2.8 with 2x tc. f5.6 1/200s -0.3ev. About 25% FF. Maybe not as much detail as I would normally like, but I really liked the red eye in this one.

Funny how it works. I've been wanting a close up of a stilt for at least a year. Everywhere I went they moved too far away and even if I waited they didn't come back. This day they were everywhere. Maybe they were wearing their tuxedos for the wedding.

Nice pose, Angela. I like the hint of motion it gives and the eye is wonderful.

Great eye! It's very tough to get the eye well in these guys - they are pretty deep and the head is usually down.
Nice pose and water too.
Well done!

Nice stilt image. the colorful legs really stand out. Tack sharp and the blacks and whites are handled very well.

Congratulations on scoring such a fine image particularly in view of your perseverance Angela :^) Though I've to actually see one in real life, from pictures I've seen I've alway thoughts Stilts are one of the most elegant of birds, thanks for sharing :^)

I love these little guys. We have a pair here up the street but too far away for now for a good shot. Love the pose and exposure

Nice looking Stilt, Angela. Good job getting detail in the blacks in this lighting. Nice image quality for such an extreme crop.

The eye really grabs the attention, Angela. The stilt is very sharp for the amount of crop. Your exposure techs look very good on both blacks and whites. The eye level POV makes the bird pop against the water. These birds remind me of models - with their long legs and elegant carriage. I think the image needs a slight cw rotation.

Beautiful shot on a special day, next to spoonbills these guys are my favorite bird, dainty and great color contrast.
