Woods Shadows

This is an area where I have been doing field work for my day job this winter. Some of the mornings have been so beautiful that I had to go back on my own time to see what I could capture. The craters are from snow that has fallen from the trees. I guess what caught my attention is the different shadow tones and widths.

Nikon D700, 24-70, f16, ISO 200, @1/15 sec.

Comments appreciated.

I can see why this attracted you. It has a very quiet feel to it. Nice!

very subtle and lovely tonal variations. The banding of the shadows makes a strong pattern and an interesting image

Great lines and tones in these shadows and sunlight areas. The 'craters' do give this an otherworldly feel. Excellent work.

Neat! One might think this situation would be a blemish to the pristine condition of the snow. But not at all! It creates a new look and interest that make a nice abstract.

Nice work Tom. I really like how you framed the light and shadow here, and I think the small craters just add to it. The larger version shows some very nice texture in the snow too.
Hope to see you in the UP later this year. We'll make a picture! :toast:

Looks like a lunar landscape rather than an earthly one. A great celestial feel to it. Well seen and captured.

I like the abstraction and the many circular figures in the snow flanked by the diagonals. I wouldn't mind seeing some more sharpness across the image.
