Let me begin by saying that I haven't seen anyone who posts the "not quite" or even mediocre images that I post but I doubt that anyone learns as much as I do from their posts. I hope it isn't an abuse of the Gallery. Thanks for all of your helpful suggestions and your kindness as you comment.
I went back to the site of my last post and had just a few minutes of shooting before the clouds obscured the sun for the rest of the day. This is shooting towards the SW. I have another image I like a little better but this has more color and I have more questions on it. The comp seems a little unbalanced to me. I didn't have any real choices as further left is a sea of brown. I cropped the right side 4 times trying to balance it more. What do you think? Unbalanced? Too dark? Other suggestions?

I don't feel that the image is unbalanced. The composition and color are very nice. If it were mine I would be tempted to crop some of the sky, maybe even half of what you have here.

Good morning, Chad.
I like this. You caught a good subject in very nice light. It really doesn't seem unbalanced to me and whether it is too dark or light depends om my viewing angle on this monitor. Right now the color looks good. As for improvements, I've been scrolling up and down on this image to try to see what a crop from the top and or bottom would make. I think you may have the makings of a really great panorama here. I'd try cropping about a third of the sky and a third to half of the foreground and see how it looks.

Chad - I think the lighting is very subtle but created a tranquil mood, along with the reflection. I think the image might benefit further from a slight staightening of the horizon ( I think it is tipping left), and maybe a little added brightening and added contrast to the FG areas. The shadow seem a bit hazy, so they don't pop. I'm not sure why you shose ISO 400, unless no tripod was used. You may have less noise in the shadow with ISO 100. :toast:

Thanks for the input. Is the processing overdone now? I adjusted brightness, contrast and a little saturation on the reeds and just a smidge of sharpening.

Harry--ISO was set at 400 because I am an idiot at times and by the time I noticed it was 400 and changed it I had lost the fleeting light and color

Chad, I like the original because that's what I'd expect to see under those lighting conditions. The composition is excellent with the island starting the process of moving your eyes from the foreground to the lovely reflection and then on the mountains and sky. If I were to change anything, I would investigate cropping the bottom 1/4, where it's so dark. I suspect that you can remove that without affection the visual flow and it may place more emphasis on the reflections.
