Sunbeams radiating over Monte Fitz Roy in Patagonia, Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina. Taken moments before a gust of infamous Patagonian demon wind blew over my tripod, smashing two filters in the process. Damn you infamous Patagonian demon wind!

Thanks for looking!

Very majestic, and excellent conversion. I'm not sure it has the impact of a color version, but still very nice. Gotta watch out for those infamous demon winds!

This shot was worth the filter loss.
The mono is very appropriate
Good leading lines.
Great texture and contrast.
The peak cutting the sunlight is a superb catch.
Perhaps slightly oversharpened. On my screen there appears to be edge lighting I find when i attempt too much sharpening.
Very nice. Hope I get to go there someday but I'm and old guy...

Cool! A nice leading comp. H2O highlites looks slightly too bright (dodged?) but otherwise all looks good. Title is downright boring though--you should call it "Prelude to The Demon Wind"

To get light like this, the LLama must be paid. This time, it was the price of two filters.
You are lucky your muse is not the Dred Pirate Roberts. He would come for your soul.
Another peach of a comp, and the light rays blasting through the clouds above the peak are EPIC! :toast:

I hear angelic voices as I stare at this.
I’m glad the MK II and 14-24 are all right.
Your blog is a fun read.

Wow-truly awesome image Ian. I agree with Stan about the water highlights, but just slightly. Other than that, I love the comp and love the contrast between the dark spires and the bright clouds behind. Another fine shot from your trip :toast:

Phenomenal light. Having been to Patagonia in the last 2 years, and finding the Torres basically socked in by clouds, I must say that despite the wind and filter damage, this must have been memorable. I really love the tones and lines in the image.

That's impressive, i really like what you had done converting into black and white. These rays of light match the highlights on the water very well, interesting composition. Tiny nit, but the mass of dark in the upper right corner oversadows the image for me (subjectively) and pulls mass to the right just a bit too much. In any case i really like the photograph and the view.

Hi Ian

I think the scene and comp are really dynamic! The detail in the creek and rocks leading to the mountains is fabulous. The only thing not entirely working for me is the large black cliff face on the right and the black overly contrasty sky. I think if you were to bring just a bit more detail into the cliff face and lighten the black sky, this would be incredible! Really nice work though. :toast:

I'd trade having this shot for two filters any day of the week. Amazing light back there and not to shabby up front either. Nice BW

Great image, love the balance between the two light zones of the image. The diffraction rays around the peak are sublime. Not sure whether a colour image would have drawn me more? Damn those demons...probably sent by Lee Filters or Singh-Ray company :):)

A beautiful b&w, Ian. Sensational light bursting from the behind the mountain and a nice line leading up the stream into the shot. Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck.

Having used B&W extensively for my historic building work I've begun some tentative experiments with it for landscape work as well, so I find your image here particularly inspiring. The tonal contrasts and textures make it work. Stunning!
