Sea turtles

Akumal Bay on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula is a great place to see green sea turtles. On this particular day, there was some sand stirred up in the water which accentuated the light streaming down from the surface. This reduced the sharpness of the image, but added texture and color. I tried cropping the top and right a bit, but the sandy water then became distracting and I didn't think the column of light stood out as well. I also think this version gives a better sense of the turtles in their environment.

Question: Do you think the sandy water adds to or detracts from the image?

This was taken with a Canon D10 underwater camera.

C&C are appreciated. Thanks for looking.

This is a gorgeous image Ernie. I like the composition as you have it and think the sandy water really creates a nice "feel" to the image. The colors are stunning and I love the positions of the turtles. The bottom turtle pulls you into the image and the other turtle brings you up. Really terrific! :toast:

This is a beautiful image. I think the sandy water keeps things real and helps to define the light beaming into the water. :toast:

This is a beautiful image Ernie. The composition is excellent and it work well despite the fact that both turtles are facing away from the camera. The light beam and the turtle swimming into it is what makes this special. I am not sure about the sand, perhaps you needed it to get the light beam that clear, but apart from that this would work well for me in crystal clear water (if the light beam would still be visible that is). :toast:

Lovely image Ernie, really like the turtle swimming up into the lightbeam here. This might have been even stronger without the turtle in the fg, but that was in no way under your control. Superb stuff!! :toast:

p.s. How do you like the D10? I have been looking at several different set-up fro some underwater stuff with compacts but haven't made up my mind yet...

As is the image is fantastic. The fg turtle adds a color zest along with that of the fg ground. The other turtle is all action, and composed well in the frame. It would be a different image in clear water, but I think the sand adds character.
