Dusky Langur

Canon EOS 7D, EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM @ 200mm, Aperture Priority, f/2.8 (1/60 sec), ISO 800, Handheld, JPG from RAW, Cropped About 15% from Full Frame

Following on from the Maroon Langur shot in Northern Borneo, this one is a young Dusky Langur in Taman Negra on the Malay Peninsular.

The Dusky Langur has several aliases including Dusky Leaf Monkey, Spectacled Langur and Spectacled Leaf Monkey.

We came across this cute little fella by itself (which is apparently quiet unusual, as they're usually found in groups) hanging out among this patch of giant grass or perhaps it's bamboo. Although he could have gotten himself in trouble had the resident family of Macaques shown up, they didn't and he was curious enough of me below snapping off a series of shots before he became bored and eventually leaped off and out of sight.

Thoughts and opinions always welcome, thanks for viewing :^)

Very cute little fella and you did an excellent job capturing this image. Excellent lighting and detail. I would be tempted to soften the bright white spot just to the right of the tail but thats a minor nit. Nice job!

Very cute little guy and I like the way he is looking here. Also his position on the bended bamboo/grass is great. I'm not 100% sold on the oof branch in the LRC though, it is quite large and distracts from the great subject (for me). :wavey:

Very nicely done !
I would have preferred to place the monkey, bit lower in the frame and you could have avoided the oof leaf too.

A beautiful intimate photo of this cute little monkey. I like how it's isolated from the background yet seems a part of it.
Nice catchlight in it's eyes to bring it alive
Nicely done!

What a cool monkey Ashley! Great detail, pleasing DOF and a wonderful habitat setting. The OOF leaf is mentioned, apart from that no nits or suggestions. :toast:

very cute Ashley!

for my tastes I would have either liked to see the whole tail, or less of it (ie a tighter crop)

Ashley this is outstanding! The quality of light is beautiful, his expression shows just the right amount of eye contact and interest, you nailed the depth of field...it separates your subject nicely while still showing his environment. Great overall composition and decisions in terms of inclusion/exclusion of elements. I think the leaves at the top and even the OOF leaves at the bottom strengthen the overall image, though can appreciate the argument it can distract as well.

I guess if I had any nits it would be I'd love to see the bottom of the tail and the bright spot under the monkey is the brightest part of the image so threatens to pull my eye there. Keeping the monkey's chest bright helps to balance this though.

Great image!

Delightful. Those eyes seem to see all, and I can almost feel the fur detail. Okay, I see the right arm and hand, the left, And I think both feet, and the tail, so whats the black along the foreground bamboo?

Great detail and great expression. Those long tails are problematic! With it hanging straight down, I think I would have sacrificed it more completely, and framed/cropped just under his feet.

Many thanks for your kind words, observations and thoughts John, Wayne, Lon, and Darren :^)

Wayne: If I understod you correctly, the black along the foreground bamboo is actually the lower part of the subject's left leg ;^)

Wonderful. I like this one a lot. Actually, the tail doesn't bother me in this one (while it does much more on your maroon langur photo) probably because of all these vertical lines around. Lovely creature.

Thanks Andrius, and yep, I agree the the clipped tail in this one appears better than the job I did on the Maroon Langur's ;^)
